St. Patrick’s 2007 CYO Track & Cross Country Season

The season that started in late March came to an end on 11/17 at Sunken Meadow Park with the Northeast USA Track and Field Cross Country Championships. What a year it was for the over 175 athletes from our North Shore communities!

The Spring Season started with weekly practices at the Glen Cove High School Track. These practices gave the coaching staff a chance to meet the new athletes and prepare them for the experience of Track & Field and for the returning athletes it was a chance to get their legs ready for the season. The team competed in 7 meets throughout Long Island and once again hosted a meet at our home track in Glen Cove. Over 1,000 athletes and families came to our great city to compete against 8 other parishes. The support of the community and parents made it a great day. This year the team competed in the USA Track and Field Regional championship at Mitchell Field. This event is held every year and the top 3 in each event earn an opportunity to go to the National Championships. This year it was held in San Diego. The team qualified their 6th grade 800M relay team.

The spring season came to an end in July and soon afterwards the Cross Country team started to prepare for the fall season. The athletes were trained to run an age appropriate distance that ranged from 1.8 miles to 3.1 miles.  By the end of the season each of our athletes established personal best times and were able to compete against the best runners from the Northeast. The cross country team has come a long way and we think next year we will have a runner or two ready to take a trip to Virginia for the National Championships.

The coaches would like to thank our athletes for their 2007 results. To see what they can accomplish is truly a credit to each and every one of them. We’d also like to thank the parents who are the backbone of the team. They are always willing to help out when needed. Finally, we’d like to thank our sponsors. We call these generous people “partners” in the development of our children. Their generosity enables us to keep the costs down and make the program one of the best values in town.

 The “partners” are as follows:

Knights of Columbus 1828, VFW Post 347, Claynation, Manzione Dentistry, Sorenson Lumber, Landing Liquor, Glen Floor, Badge Agency, Par Plumbing Co, GLY Religious Store, Rising Tide Natural Market, Green Mansions Tree Company, Taheri Family Dentistry,

Carrieri and Carrieri, P.C. and Wine Consultant Group

The 2008 season is right around the corner and the coaches look forward to another great season. If you have any questions please go to the teams website at http://www.stpatcyo.org.
